I’m not sure if you know this, (and if you haven’t already picked up on it, you haven’t visited my blog near enough) but I love monochrome outfits. Black, white, grey, single colours, never really patterned or eccentric.
But this year I have (slightly) stepped away from my aversion to colour and have picked up wearing the winter neutrals of navy, burgundy, khaki and camel. These are my basics, these are my staple items.
In my previous posts you would have seen a bit of khaki going on, I take it in any form I can, whether it’s in shoes, handbags, phone cases, pants – you name it. But this week I decided to do something a bit different – I stepped into the Portmans store in the Canberra Outlet Centre and to my delight, found the new AW2017 range, which by the way is filled to the brim with khaki, navy and burgundy. So you can imagine how happy I was when I made this discovery.
I’m wearing the Oriental shirt with the Charlotte jacket. Not only have I worn colour in this outfit, but I have worn several colours, in fact, I even matched the burgundy on the shirt to the burgundy coat – if that isn’t personal growth, then I don’t know what is. And you know what? I think this combination is a winner.
For so long I have created my style around architectural cuts and fabrics, never really giving a thought to colour or how I could use colour to make a statement – my trip to Portmans opened my eyes.
Look, I probably won’t be rushing to buy a pair of red pants, or a heavily patterned shift dress, but hey, colour is colour and I am branching out. If you’re reading this on the day of, or shortly after publishing this post, Portmans is having a 30% off sale – head into the Canberra Outlet Store to pick up the newest styles.
